“Those who don’t stick with yoga are those who use force.  Those who continue to do yoga are those who know how to surrender.”

“I think as a teacher, students only go as far as you’ve gone.  More important than what you say is where you’ve been.”

“There are moments in life when you surrender to force.  There are moments in yoga when you are forced to surrender.”

Michael was born and raised in the Detroit area and graduated from Eastern Michigan University with an M.A. in social work.  He has worked in community mental health in Grand Rapids, with the Red Cross doing disaster relief, in youth programs providing social services to teenagers, and grass roots organizing in the gay and lesbian community.  Additionally, he worked with the American Friends Service Committee on social justice issues and in non-violent training.  Michael did his teacher training at Rising Sun Yoga focusing on Iyengar and Siva Mukti.  He now teaches full time at various studios in Chicago. When asked what he plans to be doing in 10 years, Michael didn’t miss a heartbeat:

“To be in the service of those around me.”
